We have two updates to share with you which we’ll do over two posts to avoid confusion
Update 1) – Large Fish Kill at Salford Quays
You may be aware of the awful incident that has been in the news regarding the large volume of fish that have sadly died over on the Manchester Ship Canal / River Irwell following the recent storms. We’re not certain what has caused this to happen, but we know that investigations have taken place and we are waiting to learn more about how and why this happened.
The location wasn’t clearly explained in the media articles so there has been some concern amongst our customers that it was the same water as the one we run activities in, which isn’t the case. This has happened on the Manchester Ship Canal / River Irwell, which is separated from the inner basins, the water in the inner basins is closed off from the Manchester Ship Canal / River Irwell and is much cleaner thanks to the ongoing partnership between Salford City Council and APEM to monitor and manage the water quality and ecology in Salford Quays to maintain the highest possible levels of environmental quality. You can read more about the work they do here: https://www.apemltd.com/a-lasting-relationship-salford…/
The Manchester Ship Canal is owned and operated by Peel holdings; we advise you to contact them if you do have any queries about this awful incident.
Please see Water Quality – Important Information – Salford Watersports Centre for the second update regarding traces of blue green algae found in the inner basins.
