Safety & Rules:

  • Buoyancy aids must be worn by all persons on the water and within the gated compound including pontoons and slip ways. Member owned PFD’s (Personal Floatation Devices) must be checked by a member of staff from SWC and have a CE mark.
  • All member owned kit must be in good condition and comply with SWC’s operating procedures, no inflatable kayaks or canoes will be allowed on the dock.
  • Members should only access the inner basins during designated session times. Any members found to access the water outside of session times or SWC organised sessions will have their membership cancelled without refund. The inner basins are subject to a PSPO order, and this club has been formed by SWC to encourage safe and authorised access to the inner basins, failure to comply with these rules jeopardises the club’s existence.
  • Novice paddlers must stay in dock 8 accompanied by either a member of the SWC team or a competent member who can perform deep water rescues.
  • For members to travel around the docks without SWC staff, they must be in groups of 3 and each member must be able to perform deep water rescues. Members will be assessed by SWC staff and training opportunities are available.
  • All kit must be lifted and carried safely, any SWC kit should be placed back on the racks.
  • All SWC equipment must be treated with respect and damage due to mis use of kit will be at the responsibility of the person responsible to re-imburse SWC.
  • Unless in an emergency, members must not exit the water at any other location other than the Slip Way of Dock 8.
  • No jumping in from walls, bridges, or pontoons.
  • Be mindful of other water users, whilst fishing is only allowed at certain areas of the Quays, it’s often preformed in non-authorised areas such as mariners canal – try and advoid any lines and paddle
  • Junior members (14yrs – 17yrs) must remain with SWC staff or specified club members throughout the duration of the session
