Over the past few weeks, water sports activity at the centre has been suspended due to a suspected Avian (Bird) Flu outbreak at Salford Quays.
Sadly, on Friday, it was confirmed to be Avian Flu. Therefore, our suspension of activity (sessions and cold-water swims) is continuing until further notice.
We’re hopeful that this outbreak is brief and that our area is deemed safe to use in the near future, but in the meantime, If you live here or are visiting the Quays, please follow the below advice to try and reduce the spread:
  • Keep to the footpath – avoid the slipways & pontoons
  • Keep dogs on leads
  • Do not feed wild waterfowl (Bird Wildlife)
  • Do not pick up or touch dead or sick wild birds
  • Do not touch wild bird feathers or surfaces contaminated with wild bird droppings
  • If you keep poultry or other birds, wash your hands and clean and disinfect your footwear before tending to your birds
Please report dead wild waterfowl (swans, geese, or ducks) or other dead wild birds, such as gulls or birds of prey to Defra’s GB helpline: 03459 335577
We are working closely with Salford City Council on this matter, and we’ll provide an update as soon as we can. If you are a swimmer – please join our Open Water Facebook group to stay up to date or email if you have any questions.
We are still working at the centre and dealing with enquiries for 2023, so please email us via watersportscentre@scll.co.uk if you would like to make a booking 🙂
